Sculptra - The liquid face-lift

Sculptra is a unique facial filler. Unlike others it doesn't just replace lost volume but it also encourages the skin to produce extra new collagen so the skin improves gradually over a period of time. Sculptra's volumising effect and stimulation of new collagen restores lost facial volume and produces an overall more youthful and natural appearance. Generally a course of treatments is recommended to obtain optimal benefits. However, after the end of your Scupltra™ programme the results will last up to 2+ years.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a poly-L-lactic acid, which is biodegradable and non-toxic. The product works gradually to produce a natural effect over two to three treatments. Clinical studies have shown that the results of Sculptra can last for more than 3 years.

What does the treatment involve?

Often from two to four sessions are required, depending upon the desired final outcome. At each visit several injections are performed in each of the treatment areas. Anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand, to reduce discomfort. At the end of the session, the area looks much fuller and plumper and generally improved but this is actually the effect of the fluid used to dissolve the filler. Within a few days the water in Sculptra™ is absorbed by the body so the wrinkles may appear more visible again. However, the second phase consists of a natural production of collagen which smoothes out wrinkles and contour defects. After approximately six weeks clear improvement is seen though for optimum results a course of treatment is recommended.

How often is the treatment carried out?

The sessions are carried out every four to six weeks and the improvement continues for up to six months after the last session.

Is it painful?

The injections are quite deep, so it can be uncomfortable. However, the filler is diluted with local anaesthetic, which drastically reduces the discomfort. Also, a very fine needle is used and we apply an anaesthetic gel prior to treatment.

Are there any side effects?

Side effects are short-lived but may include some tenderness and minor bleeding, redness, bruising or swelling at the injection site.
